Posted by ronell-smith Not very edible corned beef hash Here I am, seated in a Manhattan, New York restaurant, staring at corned beef hash that looks and tastes like what I imagine dog food to look and taste like. I'm pissed for two reasons: It cost nearly and was entirely inedible I should have known better given the visuals depicted after doing a Google image search to find the dish, which was offered at a nearby restaurant In retrospect, I should have checked A and B on my phone before ordering the plate of Alpo. And though I didn't do that, other would-be customers...

Should you be AMPed about Accelerated Mobile Pages?

August 21, 2016  |  SEO  |  , , , , ,  |  Comments Off

Earlier this year Google began including AMP listings into its mobile search results. AMP, short for Accelerated Mobile Pages, is a specification for creating slimmed down pages for mobile devices. It’s a subset of standard HTML but with restrictions. In addition, Google caches AMPs on its own CDN to provide the fastest retrieval possible. Any AMPs appearing in Google Search results are linked to these cached pages. You may be asking yourself why we need such a thing when mobile phones are already capable of displaying “ordinary” websites. And back then, the big question everyone was asking was, “what should my mobile strategy be?” Even then, things were shifting. At one of my early conference presentations on the topic, I made the point that we should...

Posted by EricEnge[Estimated read time: 12 minutes] The world of mobile continues to explode. Major players like Google, Facebook, and Apple are investing massively in efforts to establish themselves as the dominant player in the new markets that are emerging as a result. These companies are betting in a big way on continuing changes in mobile usage and in user expectations for mobile devices, and that means you should be, too. It means you need to have a mobile-first mentality. The investments by these companies are happening at many different levels. For example, Google has already made mobile friendliness a ranking...

Eye Tracking in 2016: How Searchers Interact with Mobile SERPs vs. Desktop

March 3, 2016  |  SEO  |  , , , , , ,  |  Comments Off

Posted by rMaynes1[Estimated read time: 8 minutes] In 2014, Mediative released an eye-tracking study that looked at how Google’s Search Engine Results Page (SERP) has changed over the last decade, and how searcher behavior has adapted as a result. We learned that: Top organic results are no longer always in the top-left corner, so users look elsewhere to find them. Mobile devices have habitually conditioned searchers to scan vertically more than horizontally. Searchers are looking for the fastest path to the desired content. People are viewing more search results listings during a single session and spending less time viewing each one. Businesses that are positioned...
